- Soldier Mykola Batenko was killed in action on June 14, 2022, in a battle with the occupiers near the village of Toshkivka in Luhansk region. The warrior was 50 years old. Mykola was born in the city of Novoukrainka, Kirovohrad region, in a family of a sailor. He stu at the local secondary school No. 8. He acquired the profession of a military man in an artillery school, but due to family circumstances, he left his studies. He worked at the Bantyshivskyi Shcheben company, was engaged in construction. He loved domestic animals. He enjoyed going fishing. From the first days of the full-scale Russian invasion, Mykola joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 57th separate motorized infantry brigade named after Koshovy Otaman Kostiantyn Gordiienko. "A man with a capital letter, a good man and a hard worker. A person who took all the hard work upon himself. He went to war as a volunteer from the very beginning of the full-scale invasion. 'Who, if not me?!'. He didn't tell anyone, not even me. He said at the last moment that he was leaving for Odesa in an hour... And he ended up in Lysychansk, Luhansk region. Without training, they were sent to zero positions in Borivske, which they successfully defended for 2.5 months. And then they were transferred to Toshkivka. There was no connection at all. And after 26 days of being there, they reported that Mykola had . I was lucky that his body was delivered home, because the bodies of the other guys could not be taken back... Stubborn, sensitive, kind, hardworking, caring. Everyone knew him as a good, honest and hardworking person. I miss him very much, I grieve... I don't believe to this day that he's gone... Everything reminds me of him... I grieve through space and time...", said his wife Lilia. Mykola was buried on the Alley of Glory of the Novoukrainka cemetery.
