Mykola V. Omelchenko

Sergeant Mykola Omelchenko was killed on February 5, 2023, in a tank battle with Russian occupiers in Vuhledar, Donetsk region. The defender was 52 years old. Mykola was born in the village of Mayak, Donetsk region. In 1987, he graduated from Oktyabr Secondary School. The following year, he was drafted into the regular military service. His stories about the army accompanied his family throughout his life. He was engaged in entrepreneurial activities. He loved nature, fishing, and hunting very much. When the full-scale war began, the man without hesitation took up arms and went to the front as a volunteer. He joined the 109th separate brigade of the territorial defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In January 2023, as part of the unit, he was seconded to the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade and went to defend Vuhledar. "He could not remain aloof when the occupiers came to his native land. He considered military service the business of his whole life. He was the best RPG shooter, he was prepared for everything! But "she" chose him..." - said the wife of the deceased Lyudmyla. The warrior is buried in the cemetery in the village of Pankivka, Donetsk region, among the pine forest that he loved so much. Mykola is survived by his parents, wife, two sons, and a granddaughter.
