- 27-year-old soldier Mykyta Makarenko (call sign Ivar) died on May 8, 2022 during the defense of his native city of Mariupol in Donetsk Oblast. His life was cut short by a Russian air strike on the Azovstal plant. Mykyta was born and raised in Mariupol. He graduated from the National University of the State Tax Service. He was passionate about IT technologies and the history of Ukraine. In his youth, he was involved in ballroom dancing, participated in Sunday school performances, and played St. Nicholas for several consecutive years. He was interested in business and had his own. Immediately after graduating from the university in 2018, he decided to become a soldier and joined the ranks of the special purpose unit "Azov" of the National Guard of Ukraine. He held the position of a shooter. From February 24, 2022, he bravely defended his city from the invaders. "Mykyta was the sun that warmed everything around him, he was sensitive, kind, responsible, and courageous. He loved Ukraine, knew its history, and gave his life in his native city of Mariupol for his Motherland!" - his mother Olena said. The hero is survived by his mother and wife.
