Nazar R. Markiv

Senior soldier Nazar Markiv was killed on May 14, 2023 while carrying out a combat mission near the village of Lyman Pershyi in the Kharkiv region. The warrior was 29 years old. Nazar was born in the city of Lviv, Lviv region. He received secondary basic education at the local gymnasium. In 2011, he graduated from the Lviv Military Lyceum named after the Heroes of Kruty. Then for a year he studied at the Mykolaiv Lyceum to become a tractor driver-mechanic. In 2013, he served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. From 2018-2021, he served under contract in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and took part in the Joint Forces Operation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. However, after demobilization, he did not have time to enjoy civilian life, as a full-scale war began. On February 24, 2022, Nazar returned to the army. He fought against the invaders in the ranks of the 14th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Prince Roman the Great. He was a gunner. "I will always remember my son as a cheerful, kind and brave hero," said the warrior's mother Maryana. "Unfortunately, the Mykolaiv community has lost another brave warrior-hero - Nazar Markiv from Mykolaiv. The defender was killed honorably fulfilling his military duty, defending his native land from the aggression of the occupiers. Sincere condolences to the family and friends... Eternal memory, honor and glory to the Hero!" - noted in the Mykolaiv City Council. The defender was buried in his hometown. At home, Nazar was awaited by his mother and sister.
