Oleh A. Honcharuk (Verba)

Paratrooper Oleh Honcharuk (call sign Verba) was killed on February 6, 2023, while carrying out a combat mission near the city of Kreminna in the Luhansk region. The soldier was 37 years old. Oleh was born in the city of Rivne. He graduated from the National University of Water Management and Environmental Engineering. He was passionate about football and was a player for FC Kars. In his free time, he loved fishing. He had many friends, with whom he enjoyed singing songs to the guitar during their gatherings. During the full-scale Russian invasion in the fall of 2022, the man was drafted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Oleh became a serviceman of the 95th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade. He took the position of a rifleman-medic. Together with his comrades-in-arms, he carried out combat missions on the front line. "At the time of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Oleh was in Poland and had the opportunity to take his pregnant wife and young son there, but he voluntarily decided to defend his family, the country, and all of us. Even though he didn't have previous military service experience! He was an extremely determined, kind, loving husband and father, a good person! Heroes do not die, they continue to protect us from the heavens! Eternal memory and deep reverence!" - said Iryna, the sister of the deceased's wife. The warrior was buried in the village of Dereviane in the Rivne region, where he had lived with his family in recent years. Oleh is survived by his parents, brother, wife, son, and daughter. At the time of his death, his children were 5 years and 9 months old, respectively.
