- 21-year-old soldier Oleg Kornai (call sign Norman) was killed on April 9, 2023 in battle with the occupiers near the city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region. Together with his comrades-in-arms, he repelled the enemy and held a 500-meter forest belt that provided the last road to the city. However, enemy artillery fire cut his life short. Oleg was born in Lviv. He graduated from local school No. 92. He studied at the Faculty of Journalism at the Ukrainian Academy of Printing. He was interested in the history of Ukraine, loved hiking in the mountains with friends, and was actively involved in sports. Oleg dreamed of a large family and planned to travel the world extensively. He kept his intention to volunteer to defend Ukraine a secret. Until the end, he did not tell anyone that he was going for military training. During the full-scale invasion, he fought as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was a fighter of the "Honor" unit of the 1st Mechanized Battalion "Da Vinci Wolves" of the 67th Separate Mechanized Brigade. "Oleg was an extraordinarily positive, kind, and dedicated person. The soul of the company, with a great sense of humor. A patriot of his country. He could not stand aside. And at such a young age, he made such a conscious choice. I will forever remember Oleg smiling. He was the kindest, most sincere, and bravest person I knew. He tried to support everyone, always giving good advice. Oleg always saw the best in people, was friendly to everyone. We miss Oleg very much, his laughter, his voice, his jokes, and our conversations with him. We miss him so much. Oleg is our Hero, our defender. We will do everything to ensure that his memory is eternal," said the deceased's close friend, Sofia. The warrior was buried at the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv. Oleg is survived by his mother, grandmother, grandfather, cousins, and a small godson.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
