Oleh O. Hanzhyn

21-year-old soldier Oleh Hanzhin was killed on June 29, 2022 while carrying out a combat mission in the Zaporizhzhia direction. As a result of enemy shelling, he sustained fatal shrapnel wounds. Oleh was born and raised in Berdyansk, Zaporizhzhia region. After finishing school, he enrolled at the National University "Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic", where he studied graphic design. He was an excellent artist and dreamed of opening his own design studio. During his studies, he worked in his field of specialization and gradually saved money to realize his dream. He had many plans for the future and also dreamed of starting his own family. When the full-scale war began, Oleh was a 4th-year student. On February 24, 2022, he took an academic leave and went to the military enlistment office, as he wanted to live in a peaceful and free country. On February 27, he joined the ranks of the 197th battalion of the 124th separate brigade of the territorial defense. A few days before his death, the young man sent his mother a final message, which she constantly rereads: "Mother, you are the best, I love you very much!" "Oleh was a good friend and partner, he always went first to help his comrades-in-arms," said his mother Aliona. Oleh was buried in the Alley of Glory cemetery in Zaporizhzhia. The defender left behind his parents, brother and sister. The young warrior was posthumously awarded the Order of Courage of the III degree.
