- Captain Oleksandr Sozanskyi (call sign Ragnar) was killed on February 17, 2023 in battle with the occupiers near the town of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region. The 31-year-old officer's life was cut short by enemy mortar fire. Oleksandr was born in the city of Sambir, Lviv region. He graduated from the Lviv Polytechnic National University, while also studying at the military department of the Hetman Petro Sahaidachny National Army Academy. He grew up in a patriotic family and had an active civic position. That's why, with the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2014, Oleksandr went to the front as a volunteer, his sister chose a military university for her studies, and his parents became volunteers. Initially, Oleksandr fought as part of volunteer units, and from 2018 he became a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Together with his comrades-in-arms, the officer constantly carried out combat missions on the territory of the ATO / JFO. During the full-scale war, Ragnar commanded the Heavy Weapons Company of the 80th separate air assault brigade. During his service, the officer was awarded the Combat Badge "Cross of the Brave" and the Order of Courage of the III degree. "My brother took part in fierce battles in Voznesensk and Lysychansk, in the counteroffensive operation in the Kharkiv region, and covered the crossing of the Siversky Donets. We must remember the history that Commander Oleksandr heroically and bravely wrote every day," said the fallen warrior's sister Ulyana, who also became an officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. "In one of the interviews, Oleksandr said that a warrior lives as long as he is remembered. Today, each of us can make sure that the brave officer, a true patriot, our Polytechnic Oleksandr Sozanskyi, lives forever. We thank him for the example of a life worth emulating, and sincerely condole his family and friends. Eternal memory and glory to the Hero!" - said the Lviv Polytechnic National University.
