- Sergeant Oleksandr Ivanov (call sign Oper) was killed on June 5, 2023 near the village of Novosilka in the Donetsk region. During an offensive operation, he sustained fatal injuries as a result of enemy artillery shelling. The warrior was 47 years old. Oleksandr was born and lived in Sumy. He was an excellent student in school and loved the exact sciences. He graduated from a construction college. He served in the army. After the army, he served in the police as an operative and investigator. He had high performance in the search and detention of offenders. He resigned with the rank of captain and began to realize his potential in civilian life. He worked at a company that specialized in metals. The management and employees speak of him only positively. They note that he was cultured, intelligent, tactful, erudite, and knowledgeable in many issues. With the start of the full-scale war, Oleksandr decided that he had to defend Ukraine. He joined the ranks of the 31st Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He took the position of a machine commander - a platoon commander and went to the front line. Before the start of the offensive operation, he informed his loved ones that he had health problems, but he firmly decided not to go for treatment, as he had a great desire to move forward. "A dear man and father heroically perished. I am infinitely proud of him, I always loved, respected and valued him. I didn't have time to say a lot to him. He is a Hero who could not, like others, sit at home and hide from the military commissariat. He made a significant contribution to our common victory. He did the most difficult thing - he started the movement of our units at the call of the soul, at the call of the people in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. Now the whole Motherland is proud of him. I loved him very much..." - said the fallen warrior's son Ihor. The Hero was buried in the Alley of Glory in his hometown. Oleksandr is survived by a brother and a son.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
