Oleksandr I. Horiuk (Armian)

Soldier Oleksandr Horiuk was killed on September 28, 2022, during an enemy artillery shelling near the village of Nyzhni Zhuravka in the Kharkiv region. The defender sustained fatal injuries while trying to shield his comrades. Oleksandr was about to turn 30 years old in 1.5 months. He was originally from the Chernivtsi region. A graduate of Lyceum No. 12 "Yubileiny." He lived in Chernivtsi. Family and friends remember him as a kind and cheerful person. On February 24, 2022, he joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, becoming part of the 80th Separate Air Assault Brigade. He held the position of a sniper in the 1st Air Assault Section of the 3rd Air Assault Platoon. Together with his comrades, he defended Ukraine in Donetsk, Kherson, and Kharkiv regions. During one of the assaults, he was wounded but continued to serve. "Oleksandr fulfilled his duty as a citizen of Ukraine and a patriot with honor and dignity. Until his last breath, he remained loyal to his comrades, the people, and his homeland. His parents are proud of such a son, and his daughter is proud of her dad," wrote the relatives of the fallen soldier. Oleksandr was buried at the Alley of Glory in the Central Cemetery in Chernivtsi. He is survived by his parents, daughter, and other relatives. Vasyl Shkil Street in the defender's hometown was renamed in honor of Oleksandr Horiuk.
