Oleksandr I. Korzhan

Korzhansky Olexandr Ivanovych was born on December 8, 1993, in the Kherson region. While still in school, he engaged in athletics—running marathons, training with dumbbells, and loved playing football. During the ATO in Eastern Ukraine in 2016, he signed a contract and joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in an airborne assault brigade, holding the position of chief sergeant of the company. With the onset of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, he was at the front line. On February 25, 2022, Olexandr Korzhansky was dispatched from his unit to the city of Sumy. He fell behind his comrades when they exited the city. Thus, he began recruiting volunteers among the locals, teaching them how to use weapons. On March 1, 2022, 10 volunteers, including Olexandr Korzhansky, attempted to stop an enemy column of equipment near the city of Sumy. The Russians suffered significant losses, but Olexandr Korzhansky was killed in that battle.
