- Oleksandr Mykolaiovych Bakumenko was born on February 22, 1990, in the village of Novouspenivka, Veselivskyi District, Zaporizhia Oblast. He held the position of commander of a platoon in the operational assignment battalion named after the Hero of Ukraine, Major General Serhiy Kulchytskyi. From the first days of the full-scale invasion, Oleksandr carried out assigned service-combat tasks in the Kyiv region. On March 2, 2022, a consolidated group of the operational assignment battalion, which included Senior Sergeant Oleksandr Bakumenko, moved from the permanent deployment point to the area of the village of Liutizh in the Vyshhorod district of Kyiv Oblast to strengthen defensive positions. On March 12, 2022, the group was to change its place of deployment and move to strengthen defense positions in the area of the village of Huta-Mezhyhirska in the Vyshhorod district. During the movement, the column came under enemy fire ambush. The personnel of the group engaged in a fierce battle. Senior Sergeant Oleksandr Bakumenko skillfully and adeptly fired at the enemy from a BTR-70. During the shelling from anti-tank weapons, Oleksandr's BTR was hit by the enemy. The crew of the vehicle realized that it would not be possible to escape the enemy fire, so a decision was made to do everything possible, even at the cost of their own lives, to allow the personnel of the group to get out from under the enemy's intense fire. Senior Sergeant Oleksandr Bakumenko was unable to leave the battlefield; he sustained injuries incompatible with life. With his heroic act, he saved the lives of many comrades. For his personal courage and selfless actions demonstrated in defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as loyalty to the military oath, Senior Sergeant Oleksandr Mykolaiovych Bakumenko was posthumously awarded the Order of "For Courage" III degree.Memory Book of the MIA System
