Oleksandr M. Steshenko

41-year-old soldier Oleksandr Steshenko was killed on March 3, 2023 near the city of Vuhledar in the Donetsk region. While carrying out a combat mission, he sustained fatal injuries during enemy artillery shelling. Oleksandr was born in the city of Kaniv, Cherkasy region. He graduated from Kaniv Secondary School No. 4. He then obtained the profession of tractor driver-mechanic at the Bobrytsya Vocational and Technical School. He worked in the gas industry. He was married and lived with his family in the village of Kurylivka, Cherkasy region. Recently, he was engaged in entrepreneurial activity. He loved fishing and kept a small pond near his house. From the first day of the full-scale invasion, the man joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In one of the mechanized brigades, he held the position of driver-radio operator of the infantry unit and went to the front line. "This pain will never go away. We just have to learn to live with it," wrote the wife of the deceased. "Oleksandr Steshenko was a true patriot who believed in the victory of his country and did everything to bring it closer until his last breath," the Kaniv City Council noted. "Oleksandr was a kind, caring man and just a good person. Eternal memory to the hero of Ukraine..." the community added. Oleksandr was buried in the Alley of Heroes of the central cemetery in his hometown. At home, the defender was awaited by his parents, wife, children, sister and nephews. The warrior was posthumously awarded the distinction "For Merits to the City of Kaniv".
