Oleksandr M. Zhyhylii

Sergeant Alexander Zhigiliy was killed in action on March 14, 2022, while carrying out a combat mission near the town of Maryinka in Donetsk region. The defender was 51 years old. Alexander was born in the village of Sahnivshchyna in Poltava region. He stu at the local school. After receiving his diploma, he was drafted into the army. He ended up in the coastal guard of Kronstadt in the Baltic Sea. After the army, he got married and settled in the village of Abramivka in Poltava region. He obtained the profession of an electric welder at the Karlivske vocational and technical school. Then he graduated from Mykolaiv's maritime school. He worked as a mechanic and electric welder at TОV "Mashivka-Agro-Alianz." He loved to travel, was fond of hunting, and was an excellent photographer. He fought in the ATO in Donbas in 2015-2016. During the full-scale Russian invasion, Alexander took up arms to defend his native country. He served in the 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Hetman Ivan Mazepa and held the position of a rifleman-medic. He defended Donetsk region. "He was a remarkable person to me. He loved life and laughed so easily. We are very similar in character, thanks to him I am who I am. I have always been proud of my father, he is my Hero!" said his daughter Ellada. "People we love become a part of who we are. And when they leave this world, part of them remains with us," said his wife Valentyna. The hero was buried in the village of Abramivka in Poltava region. Alexander left behind his wife and daughter.
