Oleksandr O. Makaruk (Makar)

Senior Lieutenant Oleksandr Makaruk (call sign Makar) died on July 7, 2023, during an artillery bombardment in the village of Lukianivske, Zaporizhzhia region. In two months, the defender would have celebrated his 50th birthday. Oleksandr was from the village of Hremyache, Rivne region. He obtained his education at the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute". He was a radio engineer by profession. He had his own car repair service and also worked abroad. In his free time, he loved to play computer games. In October 2022, Oleksandr was called up to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He defended the Motherland as part of the 117th Separate Mechanized Brigade. He held the position of commander of the anti-aircraft missile platoon. "My husband was a commander with a capital letter, he was always with his guys, never leaving them alone with the enemy. My Sasha was a brave, responsible and purposeful man. Almost 27 years of marriage, two children... Our son continues his studies at the same university where we studied with my husband, where we met, where our family was born. Our daughter is still in school, just as stubborn as her father. We miss him very much and cannot come to terms with the fact that we will never see him again," said his wife Kateryna Makaruk. Oleksandr was buried in his native village. He is survived by his wife, son, daughter and father.
