- Born on July 14, 1964, in the village of Zhitni Hory, Rokytniansky District, Kyiv Oblast. Graduated from the secondary school in the village of Zhitni Hory. Lived in the city of Uzyn, Bila Tserkva District, Kyiv Oblast. Worked as a driver in the supply company of the Central Storage and Supply Base of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (military unit 1471, village of Savyntsi, Rokytniansky District, Kyiv Oblast). Since June 2014, he participated in the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine. On June 14, 2014, a convoy of vehicles from the State Border Guard Service, in which Oleksandr Ostrovskyi was present, was heading for rotation to the border guard units with a cargo of provisions and equipment. Around 10:00, on the outskirts of the city of Mariupol, Donetsk Oblast, near the Azovstal metallurgical plant, the convoy was ambushed by militants and was fired upon with automatic and sniper weapons and grenades. A grenade hit the cabin of the MAZ vehicle, which was driven by Oleksandr Ostrovskyi. As a result of the explosion, the serviceman died on the spot. During the confrontation, Senior Lieutenant Serhiy Yepifanov and Major Mykola Zaitsev also died. On the same day, from the injuries sustained, Major Vitaliy Vynnychenko died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital, and Warrant Officer Volodymyr Hrechany died in the hospital in the city of Mariupol. Another 7 border guards were injured to varying degrees of severity.
