Oleksandr O. Silkin (Did)

Soldier Oleksandr Silkin (call sign Grandfather) was killed on January 27, 2023 near the village of Neskuchne in the Donetsk region. While carrying out a combat mission, the defender came under enemy mortar fire and received fatal injuries. The warrior was 52 years old. Oleksandr was born in the village of Birkivka, Chernihiv region. He graduated from school there. Then he studied at vocational construction lyceum No. 18. He worked as a mason on construction sites. He lived with his family in Chernihiv. Later he worked as a security guard. In his free time, he loved to pick mushrooms and go fishing. During the full-scale war, Oleksandr fought for Ukraine in the ranks of the 1st separate tank brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He held the position of a sapper in the engineering and sapper unit. He took part in the battles for Chernihiv and the region, then went with the unit to fight on other hot fronts. "My father was, is and will be a man with a capital letter. He was not afraid of death. He is an example of courage and heroism for me. I am very proud of him. For me, he will live forever," said the son of the fallen. The warrior was buried on the Alley of Heroes of the Yatsevo cemetery in Chernihiv. At home, Oleksandr was awaited by his wife Olga and son Artur.
