- Sergeant Major Oleksandr Kovalskyi was killed on October 3, 2022, while performing a combat mission near the city of Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region. The military man was 38 years old. Oleksandr was born in the city of Horodnia in the Chernihiv region. He stu at Horodnia Secondary School No. 1. From 2002 to 2006, he served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He lived in Chernihiv. In between his service, he worked as a security guard and a logistics department dispatcher. With the onset of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2014, he served on mobilization and participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO). In 2016, he signed a contract with the 1st Separate Tank Brigade of Siversk. He was a company sergeant. During the full-scale war, Oleksandr continued fighting as part of his brigade. From the first days of the invasion, he defended his native Chernihiv region, and then he and his unit moved to other hot spots on the front. “Oleksandr Kovalskyi was 38. His younger brother Hennadii, who went missing while performing a combat mission on May 14, was 33. Heroes do not die. These are not just words. Their souls are felt in every breath we take, in every heartbeat. They remain with us — so that we remember the price paid for each of our mornings, for each day. And so that we do not forgive. Neither we nor the following generations,” stated the Horodnia community. “Eternal memory, brother. We remember and will always remember. Rest in peace,” wrote Oleg Humper. The defender was buried in his hometown. At home, Oleksandr was awaited by his parents, wife, two nephews, and a large family.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
