- Junior Sergeant Oleksandr Melnychuk was killed in action on November 12, 2023, during a battle in the Serebriansky Forest area in Donetsk region. During an enemy shelling, he sustained a mine-explosive injury and a severe wound. He managed to report his injury himself, applied a tourniquet, and waited one and a half hours for evacuation. On November 27, Oleksandr would have turned 27 years old. Oleksandr was born in the town of Berezne, Rivne region. In 2014, he graduated from the Berezne Economic and Humanitarian Lyceum. He then studied at the Faculty of International Relations at Lesya Ukrainka Eastern European National University. In his free time, he loved playing football with friends. From 2017 to 2019, he served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine during his compulsory military service. During that time, he performed combat missions in the ATO zone and received the combatant status. From the very first days of the full-scale invasion, Oleksandr volunteered to defend his homeland. He served in the 1st Separate Special Purpose Brigade named after Ivan Bohun. He was a squad leader and vehicle commander of a reconnaissance platoon. He took part in the liberation of Chernihiv and Sumy regions, and carried out combat missions in the Kharkiv and Donetsk directions. “He was a man of honor, a true warrior, the best person. You will remain in my heart for the rest of my life, and my soul will always feel yours,” wrote Oleksandr's beloved, Alla Olasiuk. The defender was buried at the Alley of Glory in the Lukavets tract in his hometown. At home, Oleksandr was awaited by his mother, sister, girlfriend, and other family and friends.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
