- Sergeant Major Oleksandr Harmatiuk was killed on February 24, 2022 in a battle with Russian occupiers near the Antonivskyi Bridge in the Kherson region. The soldier did not live to see his 50th birthday. Oleksandr was born in the village of Hulanka, Zhytomyr region. He obtained the profession of driver-mechanic at the Korosten Vocational and Technical School. Later, he decided to dedicate his life to military service. He became a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and settled in the Lviv region. He served in the 12th Separate Army Aviation Brigade named after General-Lieutenant Viktor Pavlenko. He was the Sergeant Major of the material support company. In his free time, he loved to go on nature trips with friends and family, go fishing, and pick mushrooms. On the first day of the great war, the man continued to fulfill his military duty and defend his native country from the occupiers. "This warrior gave his life to save others, he knew what awaited him. Until the last, he told his family: 'Everything is fine.' He was completely dedicated to service. He spent 24.5 years on it. He took part in peacekeeping missions in Lebanon, Liberia, and the Congo. His death became a pain for everyone on the first day of the full-scale war," the deceased's relatives said. The defender was buried in the village of Ralivka, Lviv region, a year after his death. Oleksandr is survived by his wife, daughter, and son.
