Oleksandr V. Kapush

Born on July 27, 1991, in the city of Uzhhorod, Zakarpattia region. In 2006, he graduated from the 9th grade of Uzhhorod Secondary School No. 6 named after V.S. Hrendzha-Donsky. He served under contract as the commander of a mountain infantry squad in the mountain infantry platoon of the mountain infantry company of the 15th separate guards mountain infantry battalion of the 128th separate guards mountain infantry brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit A1778, Uzhhorod, Zakarpattia region). Since May 2014, he participated in the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine. He was a participant in the defense of the International Airport "Luhansk" and the battles for the city of Debaltseve in Donetsk region. On February 6, 2015, a group of scouts under the command of senior soldier Oleksandr Kapush defended positions against the overwhelming forces of Russian-terrorist groups in the area of the urban-type settlement of Chornukhine in the Popasna district of Luhansk region. At the most difficult moment of the battle, an enemy grenade was thrown at the unit. Senior soldier Oleksandr Kapush shielded his comrade with his body and was killed on the spot, suffering a fatal injury from a grenade fragment to his temple. On February 18, 2015, he was buried at the Hill of Glory in the "Kalvaria" cemetery in Uzhhorod. By the decree of the President of Ukraine No. 320/2017 dated October 12, 2017, for exceptional courage and heroism displayed in the defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and loyalty to the military oath, senior soldier Kapush Oleksandr Vasylovych was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the Golden Star.
