Oleksandr V. Nestorenko

Born on October 29, 1974, in the city of Lebedyn, Sumy region. Graduated from secondary school No. 6 in the city of Lebedyn and Lebedyn Special Vocational Technical School No. 4 (now - State Vocational Technical Educational Institution "Lebedyn Higher Vocational School of Forestry") with a specialty in "tractor driver." From 1994 to 1996, he served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served as a driver in the military unit of air defense. After demobilization, he returned to Lebedyn. Worked as a laborer, loader, receiver, and driver. Before mobilization, he worked as a driver for a transport company in Kyiv. In March 2014, he was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He underwent military training at the 169th Training Center of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit A0665, the urban-type settlement of Desna, Kozelets district, Chernihiv region). He served in the 95th Separate Airborne Brigade of the High Mobility Airborne Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (military unit A0281, city of Zhytomyr). In the spring of 2014, together with his unit, he was at the administrative border with the annexed Crimea. Since April 2014, he participated in the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine. He was involved in the battles around the city of Sloviansk in the Donetsk region and in its suburbs. At the end of the second month of his time at the front, Oleksandr Nestorенко fell ill. He was sent to the hospital and then given leave. Kyiv doctors found that the soldier had a kidney cancer tumor, which was very advanced, with metastases. The cause of the rapidly developed illness was the stress experienced in the combat zone. Doctors fought for Oleksandr Nestorенко's life for a long time, but their efforts proved futile. On October 16, 2014, he died at the National Military Medical Clinical Center "Main Military Clinical Hospital" (Kyiv). He was buried at the Troitske Cemetery in Lebedyn.
