Oleksii D. Zmiievskyi (Zmii)

Senior soldier Oleksiy Zmiyevsky (call sign Snake) was killed on June 29, 2023 near the village of Ivanivske in the Donetsk region. While carrying out a combat mission, a group of defenders came under enemy mortar fire. Snake received a fatal shrapnel wound. He was 41 years old. Oleksiy was born in the village of Vorzel in the Kyiv region. In childhood, he moved with his parents to the capital. There he finished school and obtained the profession of a carpenter at vocational school No. 7. Later he settled in the city of Bucha. He worked as a specialist at the Antonov plant, then in construction. From the first days of the full-scale Russian invasion, the man joined the Bucha TRO and took part in the defense of Bucha and Irpin in the Kyiv region. In the summer, he joined the 241st separate brigade of the territorial defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and went to defend other directions of the front. "The uncle was a very good person. It was easy for me to communicate with him, even to share something, he always listened. His act and what he did for Ukraine will forever remain a bright example for future generations," said the niece of the fallen soldier, Kateryna. The warrior was buried in his native village of Vorzel. Oleksiy is survived by his older brothers Mykhailo and Andriy, son Dmytro, daughter Mariia, other relatives, friends and comrades-in-arms.
