- Sergeant Oleksiy Vernyhora (call sign Hora) was killed on December 29, 2022, while carrying out a combat mission in the area of the village of Dibrova in the Luhansk region. The warrior was 41 years old. Oleksiy was born and lived in Kyiv. He graduated from the Kyiv Technical School of Public Catering with a specialty in "Refrigeration Machines and Installations". He worked as an engineer for refrigeration, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment. He was a professional in his field. In his free time, he played football and was a fan at football matches. He was interested in gardening and planted dozens of trees. An experienced driver, he loved to travel around Ukraine. With the start of the full-scale war, Oleksiy joined the 131st battalion of the 112th separate brigade of the territorial defense of Kyiv region. He was a platoon commander. "On New Year's Eve, Oleksiy mistook the door, and we met. From that moment on, everything began. We are a family of stubborn, purposeful and strong-willed Aries. Our relationship was like a flame. He was loving, fair and kind. He easily found a common language with any person, had loyal friends and was the soul of the company. He cooked delicious borscht," said the warrior's wife Tetyana. "They are burying a Kyiv resident over 40, whose family lineage I traced back to 1860 - even before the abolition of serfdom. The family of the TRO warrior Oleksiy Vernyhora did not know serfdom. Even under the communists, in the corner of the village of Holinka, they had the street nickname Cossacks. The great-grandson received the call sign Hora in the army. Well, witty - Verny Hora. But it seems that Hora is really true. Because not only the "regular" chaplain Father Ihor came to bury him, but also the one who was with him at the front - he came especially, did not serve a requiem, but spoke a word. About Hora," wrote Rostyslav Martyniuk. The defender was buried at the Berkovets cemetery in his native Kyiv. Oleksiy is survived by his mother, sister, and wife.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
