Oleksii V. Shevchenko (Sheva)

Senior Lieutenant Oleksii Shevchenko was killed on February 26, 2022, while repelling an attack by Russian occupiers near the town of Volnovakha. The officer was the commander of a tank company in a separate motorized infantry brigade. Oleksii was born in Kramatorsk, Donetsk region. He had dreamed of becoming a military man since childhood, like his grandfather. Therefore, in 2014, he went to the front. On the second day of the full-scale Russian invasion, Senior Lieutenant Oleksii Shevchenko participated in stopping the enemy offensive in Donbas. That day, Oleksii's unit was tasked with clearing Volnovakha. When the tank group, which included Senior Lieutenant Shevchenko, entered the city, nothing could be seen. So, he decided to open the hatch and personally inspect the situation. He discovered an enemy group and opened fire on them. The officer destroyed part of the enemy's manpower with two tank shots. However, at that moment, an enemy grenade hit the turret of Oleksii's tank. The entire blast went towards him. His comrades say that the fallen warrior was a true and worthy commander, a leader in everything. The defender was buried in the village of Semenivka, Kharkiv region. The hero left behind a wife and daughter. Senior Lieutenant Oleksii Shevchenko was posthumously awarded the Order "For Courage" of the 3rd degree.
