Petro A. Chekhovych

Soldier Petro Chekhovych was killed in action on March 9, 2022, defending the Kyiv region. He was wounded in battle with Russian occupiers near the village of Kopyliv, near Bucha. Petro was born and lived in Fastiv, Kyiv region. He graduated from local school No. 9. He worked as an instrumentation and automation fitter at the regional branch of "Southwestern Railways". He got married, raised a child. Above all, he dreamed that his family would live in peace. On the first day of the full-scale Russian invasion, February 24, 2022, the man turned 38. And already on the third day he joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend his native land and his family. Petro was a sapper and carried out combat missions in the Kyiv region. "We will not forgive! We miss you so much, dear!" wrote his wife, Olena. "It is difficult for us to imagine what the relatives and friends of Petro are feeling, but we assure you: he left us heroically, doing what his free spirit could not help but do - defending his own country. We sympathize with the family of the deceased and all who knew him, and promise: we will hold on and be worthy of this sacrifice. Glory to the heroes!" noted on the page of "Ukrzaliznytsia" (Ukrainian Railways). The defender was buried in his native city. Petro is survived by his wife, daughter, relatives, and friends. Posthumously, soldier Petro Chekhovych was awarded the Order of "Courage" III degree.
