- 31-year-old Sergeant Petro Yakymiv (call sign Yakut) was killed on March 30, 2022, near the city of Popasna in Luhansk region. During a combat confrontation and massive artillery shelling, he sustained fatal injuries. Petro Yakymiv was born in the village of Staryi Mylyatyn, Lviv region, in a large family. He completed his local school and then graduated as a land surveyor from the natural sciences college in Lviv. Later, he stu at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. From 2014 to 2017, he participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO). At that time, he first defended the city of Popasna in Luhansk region and was wounded. After his demobilization, he married his beloved Orysia, and later the couple raised triplets: Artem, Zlata, and Diana. Before the full-scale invasion, he worked abroad. With the start of the full-scale war, Petro returned to the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Daniel and once again went to defend Luhansk region, particularly the city of Popasna. He held the position of rifleman-medic. Throughout his service, Petro was awarded the "ATO Participant" badge, the "Cross of the Brave," the "Hero's Cross," and the Order of "Courage" III degree. The last two awards were given to Petro Yakymiv posthumously."Petro was kind, sincere, brave, loving, caring as a father, husband, son, and brother. He firmly believed in Ukraine's victory and inspired others with his patriotism. He always said, 'Soul to God. Life to Ukraine. Honor to myself.' He fulfilled his sergeant's oath until his last breath. He will forever remain in our hearts, souls, memories, and prayers! Eternal memory to our Hero!" shared his sister Maria. Petro was buried in the village of Zhovtantsi, Lviv region.
