- Serviceman Roman Smal (call sign Nemo) sustained serious injuries on August 23, 2022 while performing a combat mission near the village of Novomykhailivka, Donetsk region. For a week, doctors fought for his life in the hospital in Dnipro, but on August 31, the warrior's heart stopped. Roman was born in the village of Zhovtneve, Chernihiv region. From a young age, he moved with his parents to Kyiv, where he lived his whole life. After school, he graduated from the Academy of Municipal Management. He worked at a car service station, as he was passionate about technology and cars. He was also interested in airplanes and even dreamed of becoming a pilot. From the first days of the full-scale Russian invasion, Roman joined the ranks of the 23rd separate rifle battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was appointed as a driver-radio operator. "My husband was the most just person I know in my life! Honest, brave, fair, the best father, husband and son - a true Hero for our family. Immediately after the full-scale invasion, he decided to defend his country so that we could live in our free Ukraine. Despite the fact that he was appointed as a driver-radio operator, he insisted on being transferred to his comrades 'on zero', because he really wanted to make the maximum effort towards our victory," said the wife of the fallen hero, Olga. The defender was buried at the Forest Cemetery in Kyiv. Roman is survived by his wife, son Pavlo, parents and a little sister.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
