Roman I. Pekozh (Romualdo)

Soldier Roman Pekozh (call sign Romualdo) was killed on October 5, 2023, near the village of Verbove in the Zaporizhia region. While repelling the attack of the occupiers, he received a fatal injury during the artillery shelling. The defender was 31 years old. Roman was born in Kyiv. He graduated from the Kyiv Professional Construction Lyceum. He got married and moved to Bucha near the capital. In civilian life, he worked as a freight forwarder. In his free time, he loved to go fishing. After February 24, 2022, Roman and his wife left the occupied Bucha for Kyiv. And on October 10, 2022, the man joined the ranks of the defenders. After training, he served in the 132nd separate reconnaissance battalion of the airborne assault troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. "My mother was killed when Romi was a year old. My father was killed 5 years ago. We lived in a civil marriage for 4 years. When he went to serve, he really wanted me to become his official wife. On January 6, 2023, we got married. He loved life very much. He loved my parents as his own, and my 12-year-old daughter as his own. He very much dreamed that when he returned, we would finish building the house and live in Bucha. And he also wanted another daughter..." - said the wife of the deceased Natalia. The scout was buried at the Forest Cemetery in the capital. Roman is survived by his wife, stepdaughter, sisters and a brother.
