Roman L. Medvid (Medvid)

Senior Sergeant Roman Medvid was killed on January 8, 2023, while on duty as a result of enemy artillery shelling near the village of Novosilka in the Donetsk region. The defender was forever 45 years old. Roman was from the Zaporizhia region. He studied at the Okhrimivska secondary school. He lived in Zaporizhia. In peacetime, he worked as an auto mechanic and was very passionate about his profession. In recent years, together with his wife, he was engaged in seasonal trade in vegetables and fruits in the resort town of Kyrylivka. He also had a talent for house repairs, which was a part-time job for him. He had golden hands, could fix anything, loved children very much, was a reliable person, and could find a common language with everyone. He loved to joke and was a cheerful man. With the beginning of the full-scale war, Roman went to the military enlistment office as a volunteer without hesitation. Later, he became a fighter of the 232nd battalion of the 128th separate brigade of the territorial defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He took the position of commander of the rifle unit and went to the front line. "The death of a loved one lays a heavy, burning pain on the soul, but Roman will always remain in my heart. Love does not disappear, even through the impossibility of being together," wrote the wife of the fallen hero. The defender was buried on the Alley of Fallen Heroes of the Kushuhum Cemetery in Zaporizhia. Roman is survived by his mother Nina Fedorovna, his wife Oksana, daughter Roksana, and son Mykhailo.
