- Soldier Roman Matviyas was killed on September 23, 2022, near the village of Vovchyi Yar in the Donetsk region. After a successful counteroffensive operation in the Kharkiv region, Ukrainian troops advanced towards the Luhansk region. In one of the battles, Roman fought his last fight. A month before his death, he turned 35 years old. Roman was from the Lviv region. He lived in the village of Hryada. He stu at Kulykiv and Velykohrybovytsia secondary schools. He obtained higher education at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and Lviv National University of Life and Environmental Sciences. He served in the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He worked for 6 years in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. During the Revolution of Dignity, he resigned and went to the front as a volunteer in 2014. He participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation as part of the 80th Air Assault Brigade. After demobilization in 2015, he got a job at LLC "Nova Poshta." He was passionate about chess and the history of Ukraine. With the onset of full-scale war, he returned to his comrades. As part of his native 80th Separate Air Assault Brigade, he defended Ukraine from the occupiers. He was a grenade launcher. "Reserved, pragmatic, devoted to his state," described the fallen soldier by his brother Oleg. "The sad news shook our school community. In the brutal war with Russian occupiers, the graduate of Velykohrybovytsia school, Roman Matviyas, was killed. He was intelligent, sincere, always smiling. He loved his homeland and defended it since 2014. There are no words to describe the pain of loss; the best sons of Ukraine are dying. Eternal memory to you, Roman," they wrote on the lyceum's page. The soldier was buried at the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv. Roman is survived by his mother, brother, grandmother, and aunts. Posthumously, soldier Roman Matviyas was awarded the Order of Courage III degree.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
