Roman V. Honchar (Hazel)

39-year-old senior soldier Roman Honchar (call sign Gazelle) was killed on November 6, 2022, defending positions from Russian occupiers near the village of Pavlivka in Donetsk region. An enemy drone dropped a grenade on the position where the soldier was located, resulting in fatal injuries. Roman was born in the village of Markivka in Chernihiv region. He lived in the city of Brovary in Kyiv region. He graduated from an automotive transport technical school. He opened a car service station. He adored his work as he had a knack for it. In his free time, he loved to cook exquisite Ukrainian dishes, and after the war, he wanted to open a tavern with a pottery workshop. He was passionate about underwater hunting. During the full-scale Russian invasion, the man decided to defend his homeland from the occupiers. He joined the ranks of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after the Black Zaporizhzhia Cossacks. He served as a shooter-sanitary. "On February 24, 2022, at 5:00 AM, the enemy treacherously invaded our peaceful sleep, our happy family life, waking us with explosions, after which my husband, jumping into his sneakers, rushed to the military enlistment office... A devoted son of the Cossack lineage firmly gave the only answer to the question about the war: 'The body — to Mother Ukraine, the soul — to God...' I always called him the light of my eyes, and until the end of my days on earth, Romochka will be the light of my eyes. My soul is forever one with his soul. I am sincerely grateful to the higher powers for giving me 20 years of female, family happiness to have the best friend in the world, beloved, husband. And now he is my Angel," said the wife of the fallen, Yuliia. The warrior was buried in the Alley of Heroes in his hometown. At home, his wife was waiting for Roman.
