Roman V. Hryshchenko

Roman Valeriyovych Hryshchenko was born on June 19, 1985, in Kyiv. He was drafted into the ranks of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine during mobilization. During the formation of the rapid reaction border guard command of the 24th border guard detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Roman Hryshchenko expressed his desire to serve in this unit. After appropriate training, the unit was deployed to the Donetsk region to participate in combat operations. On July 21, 2022, around 19:00, Senior Sergeant Roman Hryshchenko was at the position of the platoon stronghold "Luhansk" in the area of the village of Solodke in the Donetsk region. Russian troops fired on the platoon stronghold from tanks and attempted to break through the defense using small arms. Roman Hryshchenko, along with his comrades, engaged in battle and prevented the enemy from breaking through at the designated section of the front, but during the fight, the border guard sustained injuries incompatible with life. For personal courage and selfless actions demonstrated in the defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and loyalty to the military oath, Senior Sergeant Roman Valeriyovych Hryshchenko was posthumously awarded the Order of "For Courage" of the III degree.
