Ruslan A. Ishchenko (Turyst)

Paratrooper Ruslan Ishchenko (call sign Tourist) was killed on June 15, 2023, in a battle with the occupiers near the city of Mariinka in the Donetsk region. In two months, on August 9, he would have turned 33 years old. Ruslan was born in the village of Berezova Luka, Poltava region. He graduated from the Poltava Vocational School and obtained the profession of an automotive mechanic. He was interested in historical excavations and was a member of treasure hunter groups. He also loved fishing and football. On February 24, 2022, he joined the Berezova Luka TRO. He worked on the reconstruction of Ukrainian infrastructure damaged by Russian shelling. On April 16, 2023, Ruslan was mobilized. He underwent training in the United Kingdom. Later, he joined the 79th Separate Airmobile Brigade. He took the position of a grenade launcher assistant and went to defend Mariinka. "Ruslan was incredibly sensitive, kind, friendly, and positive. He always came to help, and his support was extraordinary. He had many friends and loved his family very much. Ruslan was always there when difficulties arose. He was extremely brave and gave his life for our peaceful future. For us, this is the most painful loss," shared the deceased's sister, Tetyana Petko. The warrior was buried in his native village. At home, he was awaited by his mother, brother, and sister. Posthumously, soldier Ruslan Ishchenko was awarded the Order of Courage, 3rd degree.
