Ruslan L. Liashuk (Vzhyk)

Soldier Ruslan Liashuk (call sign Vzhyk) was killed on May 26, 2023 near the village of Orikho-Vasylivka in the Donetsk region. During an enemy mortar attack, he covered a comrade with his body and saved his life. But he sustained fatal injuries himself. The defender was 49 years old. Ruslan was from the Rivne region. He spent his whole life in the village of Ozhenyn. He received a secondary education. He worked at the Khmilnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant. In early childhood, he lost his father, so in his youth he quickly had to become responsible and take care of his mother and sister. He was a jack-of-all-trades, he built a large house for his family with his own hands, but he did not have time to live in it. During the full-scale war, Ruslan went to defend his native country and his loved ones from the Russian invaders. He fought as part of the 14th separate rifle battalion. He was a sapper. He carried out various tasks at the front line and strived to liberate the Ukrainian lands from the enemy as soon as possible and return to his loved ones. "It is very sad that such wonderful people are leaving us. He was kind, sensitive, always smiling. He was a true patriot of his country, he loved it to the point of madness. What I remember most from his words is 'Everything will be fine!' and 'Who, if not me?'. Forever in our memory, in our hearts," wrote the daughter's friend Kateryna Rublevska. The warrior was buried in the village of Ozhenyn in the Rivne region. Ruslan is survived by his mother Olha Ivanivna, wife Liubov, daughter Olena, sons Matvii and Makar, sister Oksana, family, friends, acquaintances and comrades-in-arms.
