- Sergeant Ruslan Movchan was killed in action in battle with Russian occupiers on March 1, 2022, between the villages of Nizhnya Syrovatka and Nizy in the Sumy region. The defender was 40 years old. Ruslan was born in Sumy into a family of engineers. He stu at Sumy comprehensive school I-III degrees №22. From a young age, he attended various clubs and sports sections, had a talent for drawing, and excelled academically. He was fond of the works of Hryhoriy Skovoroda, to whom he later dedicated his thesis. In 1999, he enrolled in the Sumy Higher School of Arts and Culture named after D. S. Bortnyansky, but was drafted into the military service in the unit A0224 the same year. After returning, he continued his studies and graduated with honors. During his student years, he actively practiced karate and had a brown belt. From 2011 to 2015, Ruslan stu at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts. He received a diploma with honors in the specialty "Fine Arts (easel and monumental sculpture)". On the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of the liberation of the city from Nazi invaders, a memorial sign "Shadow of the Past" was unveiled on Troitska Street, created based on Ruslan's sketch. It became the basis of the memorial complex in memory of the victims of Nazi occupation. Since 2016, he has held the position of a teacher at the Department of Decorative and Applied Arts of the Sumy Professional College of Arts and Culture named after D. S. Bortnyansky. Two years later, he graduated with honors from the Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A. S. Makarenko, where he received a diploma in the specialty "Fine Arts. Decorative Arts. Restoration". "The man combined raising children, studying, work, and creative hobbies. He actively participated in festivals, exhibitions, sang in the amateur folk choir of the Kosivshchyna District House of Culture, created works of iconography, mosaics, restored old paintings and icons, worked on private commissions, and organized exhibitions of teachers and students," said representatives of the Sumy City Council. With the start of the full-scale invasion, he voluntarily joined the defense of Ukraine. He held the position of senior driver of the 1st mortar platoon in the 117th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade. He was buried at the Alley of Glory of the New Central Baranivsky Cemetery in Sumy. Ruslan is survived by his parents, wife, and children. Posthumously, the defender was awarded the title of "Honorary Citizen of Sumy".Memory Platform 'Memorial'
