Savelii D. Fedan (Avel)

Lieutenant Saveliy Fedan (call sign Abel) was killed on August 27, 2023, in the area of the village of Robotyne, Zaporizhia region, during an enemy mortar attack. The soldier was 21 years old. Saveliy was born in Energodar, Zaporizhia region. From childhood, he was fascinated by military affairs, so he had no problems with the choice of his future profession. He first studied at the Zaporizhia Regional Lyceum with enhanced military and physical training "Defender". He grew up as a creative person, despite the chosen serious direction. He loved to sing, wrote songs and poems. At the age of 16, he became a participant in the "X-Factor" show. In 2019, he entered the Faculty of Airborne Assault Troops of the Military Academy in Odesa. He loved military affairs, weapons, and everything related to it. He loved to spend his free time with friends and family. In the first days of the full-scale invasion, Saveliy graduated early from the 4th year of the academy and began to defend Ukraine from the invaders. He served in the ranks of the 46th Separate Airmobile Brigade. He was a company commander. During his service, the young officer was awarded the honorary badge of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine "Silver Cross", the medal "For Participation in the Battles for the Bakhmut Frontier", and the MOD award "For Exemplary Service". "Sava was an incredible person, a real man, and the best lover. He never abandoned his friends in trouble, always helped, and could be relied upon in any situation. He is an example for all men. He always looked for the positive, even in the negative..." - said the wife of the deceased Erika Martyniuk. "Son! I want to turn back time. Time when we were together, when you were by my side, when I could hug you, feel your strong and courageous shoulder. Where I felt protected and knew I could always count on you. Now I'm learning to live without you, without your 'Mom, just don't cry, everything will be fine, because you have me.' 'I have 9 lives like a cat.' No, it's not like that... There are no 9 lives, there is one... Or rather, there was. Forgive me for everything I was wrong about, for everything I offended, where I didn't love enough, where I was too stern and angry. Where I didn't understand, where I didn't pay enough attention and care for you. For everything I did wrong. How I miss you, my son, your smile, your eyes, your hugs. How I miss your calls... But I'm waiting, looking for you in the faces of passers-by, turning to every call of 'Mom.' But... How many 'buts' there are... It's so hard, if only you knew. But I'm holding on, I'll be strong, because I can't be any other way. Because that's what you wanted," Kateryna Fedan wrote. Saveliy was buried at the Lukyanivsky Cemetery in Kyiv. The soldier is survived by his mother, younger brother, wife, grandmother, other relatives, friends, and comrades-in-arms.
