Serhii A. Olefir (Batia)

Junior Sergeant Serhiy Olefir (call sign Batya) was killed on November 5, 2022, while performing a combat mission near Horlivka in the Donetsk region. The defender was 46 years old. Serhiy was born in the village of Luka-Meleskivska in the Vinnytsia region. He graduated from school No. 5 in Vinnytsia. He then obtained a cooking profession at Vinnytsia Secondary Vocational Technical School No. 2. He served in the army for a certain period. For some time, he was an employee of the internal affairs bodies. In the last years of his life, he worked as a salesman. During the full-scale Russian invasion, he was called up to the ranks of the National Guard of Ukraine. He held the position of a senior shooter in the 15th Separate Slavic Regiment. “Serhiy was, is, and remains a loving, kind, just, the best husband and father, son, brother, uncle, and a good friend. A person with a capital letter. He loved life and gave it for the sake of his loved ones so that they could live in a free Ukraine. The fire of life unexpectedly extinguished, sorrow and grief pierce the heart, a low bow to you from us and eternal memory. We remember, love, and mourn. You will always be in our hearts,” wrote the wife of the fallen, Halyna. Serhiy was buried at the Sabaryv Cemetery in Vinnytsia. At home, his wife, two daughters, mother, sister, and nieces were waiting for him.
