- Sergiy Mordik (call sign Shakhtar), a defender of Mariupol, was killed on April 29, 2022, during the defense of the Azovstal plant. The supply vehicle he was traveling in with his comrades was blown up. The military man from severe injuries and blood loss. He was 51 years old. Sergiy was a native of the village of Oleksandrivka in the Donetsk region. He obtained a technical education in Donetsk, where he remained living. He was married and raised daughters. He worked as a miner. He was interested in history, mythology, and astronomy, and his favorite hobby was to study the starry sky with a telescope. In 2014, Sergiy and his family moved to Mariupol. In 2017, he went to serve under contract in the separate special operations unit of the National Guard of Ukraine "Azov". He was a machine gunner and participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation/Joint Forces Operation. From the first days of the full-scale war, he defended the city of Mariupol. His wife also defended the city with him and was taken prisoner by the Russians for 4 months after the Ukrainian warriors left Azovstal. "I am proud of my father. He is a true Hero for our family and Ukraine. He was a man with a kind heart, always came to help, and never left anyone in trouble. My father is a true example of courage and resilience. He carried so much love for Ukraine that he did not hesitate when war came to our home, but stood up to defend our Motherland and gave the greatest value - his life," said Vladyslava Mordik. The warrior's body was cremated and buried at the Baikove Cemetery in Kyiv. Sergiy is survived by his wife Aliona and daughters Vladyslava and Kristina. Posthumously, Soldier Sergiy Mordik was awarded the Order of Courage of the III degree.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
