- Soldier Serhii Bondar died on October 11, 2023 in a battle for the city of Vuhledar in the Donetsk region. While carrying out a combat mission, he received fatal injuries as a result of enemy shelling. The warrior was 41 years old. Serhii was born in the village of Velyka Dymerka, Kyiv region. He lived and worked in Kyiv. He graduated from the "Krok" University with a degree in Economics. He also obtained the qualifications of locomotive assistant, electric locomotive driver and locomotive driver. He dedicated his entire life to working at Ukrzaliznytsia. Before the full-scale invasion, he was an electric locomotive driver at the Darnytsia locomotive depot. The man joined the defense of Ukraine in 2015. As part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, he participated in the ATO in the Donetsk region. That same year, he was awarded the "Hvardiia" badge. Subsequently, he returned to civilian life. On February 24, 2022, Serhii, having combat experience, went to defend the Kyiv region. He held the position of a grenadier in the 72nd separate mechanized brigade named after the Black Zaporozhians. After the liberation of the capital, he went to the Donetsk region. He was wounded twice, but each time he returned to his comrades-in-arms as soon as possible and continued to defend the Motherland from the occupiers. In 2022, he was awarded the President of Ukraine's "For the Defense of Ukraine" award. "My husband is an example of courage and bravery. A faithful friend and comrade. Having suffered two severe wounds, he constantly returned to the battlefield to his brothers-in-arms. He had remarkable willpower and an indomitable spirit. The best son, husband and father," said Yana Bondar. The hero was buried in his native village of Velyka Dymerka. Serhii is survived by his mother, wife and son.Memory Platform 'Memorial'
