Serhii D. Kovalenko (Shults)

51-year-old junior sergeant Serhii Kovalenko (call sign Shulz) was killed on November 4, 2022 in a battle near the village of Dudchany in the Kherson region. He received fatal injuries as a result of a hostile drone hitting the dugout. Serhii was a native of the village of Novovoznesenske in the Kherson region. He graduated from Kryvyi Rih Vocational School No. 16, where he obtained the profession of a gas welder. In civilian life, he worked in his specialty. He participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation. During the full-scale war, the man went to the front again to defend the Motherland from the enemy. He served in the 60th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He held the position of senior gunner of the mortar platoon in the 90th Battalion. "He was a very sensitive and kind person. He helped everyone who asked, because he had golden hands. He was a master of his craft," said Olha Nechytailo, the godmother and sister-in-law of the deceased. The warrior was buried in his native village. Serhii is survived by his mother, children, brothers, other relatives, friends and comrades-in-arms.
