Serhii D. Vatrych

52-year-old Staff Sergeant Serhiy Vatrych was killed in action in battle with Russian occupiers in the Luhansk direction. On May 22, 2022, he received a fatal shrapnel wound. Serhiy was from the village of Bila in Chernivtsi Oblast. He graduated from Striletsk Kutsk Middle School. He stu at the National University of Water Management and Nature Use, majoring in Computer Engineering. He served in the military and worked various jobs. He is remembered as a calm, balanced, and smiling man. In 2018, Serhiy Vatrych returned to the army. He defended Ukraine in the Donetsk and Luhansk directions. "Dad always loved to repair TVs, electronics, something to solder, to tinker. He came home rarely. They could let him go for a week or two, no more. His favorite phrase was: 'I have everything 4.5.0.', which means: 'I'm fine'... Over the past four years, my dad and I were very close, my daughter was born, he was extremely happy about the birth of his granddaughter. Now he is my angel, who protects me and gives me strength," said his daughter Esmera Balon. He was buried in the Alley of Glory of the Central Cemetery in Chernivtsi. He is survived by his daughter, son, granddaughter, and other relatives. The former Cherepovetskaya Street in Chernivtsi bears the name of Serhiy Vatrych.
