Serhii H. Henov (Mazai)

Sergeant Sergiy Genov (call sign Mazai) was killed on December 19, 2022, during enemy targeted tank shelling of the positions of Ukrainian soldiers in the area of the settlement of Mayorsk in the Donetsk region. The warrior was 42 years old. Sergiy was born in Chadir-Lunga (Moldova). He lived in the village of Pidluzhne in the Rivne region. He graduated from the Faculty of Ecology of the National University "Lviv Polytechnic". He worked in construction, was a long-distance driver abroad. He loved silence and nature. He was interested in history. Since 2014, he has participated in the ATO in Donbas, in particular, he defended the Donetsk Airport. Subsequently, he signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During his service, he was awarded the distinctions "For the Defense of the Donetsk Airport", "For Military Valor", "For Bravery in Battle", and "Badge of Honor". When the full-scale war began, the man was working abroad, but immediately decided to return home to defend Ukraine again. Sergiy joined the ranks of the 5th Separate Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was the deputy commander of a combat vehicle, a gunner-operator. "My husband was not perfect, but he was real. Honest and open. Kind and courageous. He was a true fighter for justice. His unwavering faith in victory and optimism gave us strength and helped us believe in the best. Nothing and no one could stop him on the path of fighting for his country, because he loved it more than anything. He is our Hero, our example of the best and bravest man and father. We love him! We are proud of him! Although after his death, there is an incurable wound in our souls and hearts..." said the wife of the fallen warrior, Lilia. Sergiy was buried in the village of Velyka Liubasha in the Rivne region. At home, he was awaited by his wife, daughter, and son. The hero was posthumously awarded the Order of Courage of the III degree.
