Serhii I. Bernyk (Barni)

Soldier Serhii Bernyk (call sign Barnie) was killed on September 24, 2023, near the village of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. During the performance of a combat mission, he received fatal injuries as a result of enemy artillery shelling. In October, the defender would have turned 31 years old. Serhii was born in the village of Novomykhailivka, Odesa region. He graduated from a vocational college of oil and gas technologies and service infrastructure engineering. In civilian life, he worked at the Integra group enterprise and in a hotel and restaurant complex. He found his family happiness in Velykyi Dalnyk, Odesa region. During the full-scale war, the man was mobilized into the ranks of the 118th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He held the position of a rifleman-medic. Comrades-in-arms remember Serhii as a kind, sensitive, and responsible companion. "Serhii was a loving father to his only daughter and a sensitive husband, always ready to help. In his life, he always smiled, was cheerful and full of life," said his wife Maria. The defender was buried in the village of Velykyi Dalnyk, Odesa region. Serhii is survived by his wife and daughter.
