Biography
For Ukraine₴The day of August 21, 2014, became tragic for the residents of the region — Orekhivshchyna said goodbye and laid to rest their fellow countryman, a true patriot, Serhiy Ivanovych Sukhovyi. He died on August 12, defending the interests of the state in the East. His sister Svitlana Prudnik shared about her heroic brother, who volunteered to go to the ATO zone.₴“Serhiy was born on August 6, 1978, in Komyshuvakha, he was an ordinary child, studied at the village school, had average grades, and grasped everything quickly. He was a true friend; it is very hard to find someone like Seryozha. He could defend and help, and give his last to a friend. Sometimes my mother and I even got angry because he would give his things to friends in need.₴My brother studied to be an electric gas welder at Zaporizhzhia Vocational School No. 17. He served in the army — in the Ministry of Internal Affairs troops, and was awarded the badge "For Exemplary Service" of the II degree.₴Serhiy lost his father early. Many responsibilities fell on his shoulders. He was a support for our mother, always by her side. He had golden hands, did everything around the house, and was a true worker.₴My brother did not have his own family. Once, my mother and I talked and realized that Seryozha was a one-woman man. He loved one girl, but somehow it didn't work out, and so he never got married.₴When all this started in the country, Serhiy learned that his friends had gone to defend Ukraine. He also wanted to be with them, planned to go to the East, but he didn't confess this to us. When he left, he said he found a job and would work in Zaporizhzhia. But a mother's heart cannot be deceived. We felt that something was wrong… A month later, when he came home on leave, he told us everything. He said, “I decided this.” We could only support him.₴Serhiy served as a volunteer in the "Dnipro-1" battalion. He didn't immediately confess to us that he was participating in combat operations, saying he was on duty at a checkpoint. He took very seriously the fact that human life is not valued… My brother understood that if he didn't go to defend the country, the enemy would be here.₴The last time I spoke to my brother on the phone was on August 6. We congratulated him on his birthday; everyone was eagerly waiting for Seryozha to come home, we set a festive table, but he said, “Mom, understand, I can't leave the guys right now,” and added, “Send my best regards to everyone. I will stand until the end, but I won't let the enemy through.”₴My heart sank when I saw a news segment about a bus with soldiers being shelled near Donetsk. I started calling Serhiy on his mobile, but his comrades from the battalion answered, saying he was on a combat mission. Even then, they knew that our Seryozha had taken his last fight, but they couldn't tell us until we were called for identification.₴…When I met with Serhiy's comrades, I was struck by what patriots they were. They are true friends. There were tears in their eyes… They said that Serhiy had no fear. For him, protecting a comrade was the top priority. They say he managed to be everywhere…₴I remember once my brother told me: “You know, sister, to go there means to have a great spirit. You can't judge people who can't or are afraid. It's their decision.”₴While going through Seryozha's things, my mother found photographs, notes with very wise sayings. I believe this is his inner world, and to understand him, you need to read them more than once.₴Serhiy died for Ukraine. The heavenly host has grown… For us, this is a great tragedy. For Ukraine — the loss of a patriot. Serhiy! We love you very much!₴You will always be with us in our hearts! Eternal memory to him! Eternal memory to the Heroes!”Military service
