Serhii M. Marchuk

Senior soldier Serhiy Marchuk was killed on October 23, 2022, during an assault in the Bakhmut direction of the Donetsk region. The defender sustained a fatal shrapnel wound near the village of Spirne. He was 25 years old. Serhiy was born in the village of Staryi Kosiv in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. After school, he trained as a firefighter, but he did not find this profession to his liking. He worked at the local energy company and loved his job. He was also passionate about football, playing for local teams and always being the best on the field. During the full-scale war, he went to defend Ukraine as part of the 108th battalion of the 10th separate mountain assault brigade. He was a squad commander. On October 22, Serhiy was awarded the badge of the 10th brigade "For Courage and Bravery," and the next day he was killed. Six days after the defender's death, his daughter turned one year old. "Serhiy was very young, he was only 25 years old. He started a family, loved his little daughter very much, and was very afraid that he would not see her and his loved ones again. He was not afraid of war. He was afraid that he would not return! He is a true warrior... Serhiy went through a very difficult path, having been in all hot spots: he fought near Kyiv, Kharkiv, Luhansk, and Donetsk. He saw death with his own eyes but did not give up and did not show his fear. He was very confident in himself and in our victory. Every day he did everything possible and impossible to bring this victory as quickly as possible. Since February 24, taking up arms, he went to defend our Ukraine. It was hard, but he did not give up! He slept in a cold trench with his brothers-in-arms, went for several days without water and food... In the cold, wind, and frost, he defended each of us. Every citizen of Ukraine should know their heroes and bow low to them. Glory to Ukraine! Eternal glory to the fallen warriors, Honor and Respect," noted the hero's wife, Maria. Serhiy was buried in the village of Rozhniv in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. The serviceman is survived by his parents, brothers, wife Maria, daughter Oleksandra, and best friend Bohdan.
