Serhii M. Medvid (Kozak)

Senior soldier Serhiy Medvid (call sign Kozak) was killed on October 17, 2022, while carrying out a combat mission in the area of the village of Yakovlivka in Donetsk region. In an attempt to drag his injured comrade to the trench, he could not avoid shrapnel from an explosion and sustained severe injuries. The fighter died from significant blood loss. He was 44 years old. Serhiy was from the city of Rivne. He lived in the city of Kostopil in Rivne region. He graduated from Kostopil Vocational Technical School No. 14 and obtained the profession of carpenter. He worked in various fields. In 2015-2016, he participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation in Donbas. During the full-scale Russian invasion, he took up arms to defend his native country from the occupiers. He served in the 4th Separate Tank Brigade. He was a gunner of a mechanized unit. "Dad was a good person and a wonderful father; he had many plans for life, but the war destroyed everything. He was strong and brave, always moving forward. He fought for his people and Ukraine's independence until the end, giving his life for it," said Yana Medvid. The warrior was buried at the Alley of Honorary Burials at the "Nove" cemetery in Kostopil. At home, his mother and daughter were waiting for Serhiy.
