Serhii M. Surai

Sergeant Serhii Surai was killed on June 28, 2024, in a medical facility in Vinnytsia. In early summer, he sustained serious injuries during enemy shelling in the village of Pavlivka, Donetsk region. Serhii was 27 years old. He was born in the village of Bilmachivka, Chernihiv region, where he attended school. In childhood, he was a regular participant in amateur performances, and he would always be on stage whenever there were concerts at the village cultural center. He loved singing Ukrainian songs. In July 2017, he enlisted for military service. Recently, he lived in the city of Brovary, Kyiv region, and worked in a warehouse. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling and fishing. With the start of the full-scale invasion, he defended the country's borders in the Donetsk region as part of the 58th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Hetman Ivan Vyhovsky. On April 6, 2024, he was awarded the honorary badge "Golden Cross" and had other awards and certificates. "Serhii was like a son, a whole universe to me... I could learn a lot from him. He was a very kind, sensitive, and wonderful person," said his uncle Yurii Surai. "The memories of friends and fellow villagers will preserve Serhii's enchanting voice, his smile, and his immense love for life," added the Ichnia community about the fallen warrior. The defender was buried in his native village. Serhii is survived by his mother, two sisters, a niece, a fiancée, an uncle, and a grandmother.
