Serhii O. Shkarivskyi (Shults)
10 July 1963 – 19 August 2014RF – Donetsk region

Order "For Courage" 3rd Class

Biography
He graduated from the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, obtaining the rank of reserve officer at the military department. For a long time, he worked as an engineer in one of the laboratories of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. He was passionate about aviation sports — he was a member of the gliding club of KPI "Altair" and organized an aviation sports club with young employees of the Chernobyl NPP. Later, he moved to Irpin, in the Kyiv region, and obtained a second higher education at one of the Kyiv business schools. He held the position of chairman of the board of the Irpin ATP, and in 2005 he became a member of the Council of Entrepreneurs of Ukraine under the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. He built his own house and nurtured a cozy garden around it, experienced the joy of fatherhood by raising two daughters, was fond of hunting and traveling, and played several musical instruments. He participated in the events of the Revolution of Dignity, particularly defending the barricade on Mykhailivska Street. Later, he joined the ranks of the military reserve of the National Guard of Ukraine, leading a platoon of the reserve special forces battalion "Donbas." He received the call sign Schultz. On the eve of his death, in an interview on the front line, Serhiy stated: "Our people are being beaten — we need to defend them. They are being beaten for nothing. This is from childhood, you know, if our people are being beaten — we need to sign up. This is undoubtedly ours. Half of the guys from Donbas — they were driven out of their homes. For me, it feels like Maidan — it was the same there. I had the feeling that on Maidan, they were ours, and behind them — not ours. In such a situation, sitting by the TV is very difficult. I am not afraid. I know how to stop being afraid. When you start thinking about yourself or your loved ones, it becomes scary. When you think about the fallen or injured guys, then you are not afraid; rather, anger arises…". According to Serhiy's wife, journalist Mykhailyna Skoryk, on the day of his death, he put on a bulletproof vest for the first time in two months of fighting at the request of his comrades, but a sniper's shot to the neck turned out to be fatal.Military service
