Serhii R. Zihanshyn

Sergeant Serhii Zihanshin was killed on March 14, 2023 near the village of Minkivka in the Donetsk region. While performing a combat mission, he received a fatal gunshot wound. On March 30, he would have turned 44 years old. Serhii was born and lived in the city of Volnovakha, Donetsk region. He graduated from the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs, obtaining a law degree. He worked at the Volnovakha Department of the State Enforcement Service of Ukraine, and then at a bank. In his free time, he loved to read. With the start of the full-scale war, the man went to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served in the 56th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade. During this time, he was in the hot spots of the Donetsk region. According to his comrades-in-arms, Serhii was very brave, determined, and intelligent. He knew a lot, without exaggeration. Serhii often found himself under fire with the guys, where there were situations in which my husband carried the wounded comrades to a safe place. He never talked much about his achievements in the war. He always said: "I'll tell you all later." I was interested when that "later" would come, and he would say with a smile: "As soon as we regain all our territories, then I'll tell you everything." Serhii's greatest dream was the liberation of his native Volnovakha. But, unfortunately, he did not have time. The defender was buried in the Alley of Glory of the cemetery in the city of Dnipro. Serhii is survived by his mother, two sons, a civil wife, relatives, friends, and comrades-in-arms.
